QL Why — why is it moving?

Your stock is down 3% and every headline has a story. Almost none of them will tell you the boring truth: most daily moves in most stocks are mostly the market. QL Why runs The Honest Attribution — it splits today's move into market, sector, and the part that is actually about this company, sized in sigmas against the stock's own history. When the scary headline explains nothing, it says so.

Leave the date empty for the latest session, or point it at any past trading day. Works on ~5,000 US names; sector read uses the SPDR sector fund. QL Rubber Band answers the sister question — cheap, or is its sector just down?

The Narrative Check

QL Why is diagnostic research, not investment advice. Attribution uses a two-factor regression of the stock's trailing daily returns (up to 250 sessions) on SPY and its SPDR sector fund's excess return, adjusted bars, no intercept; "stock-specific" is the residual and its σ is measured against the stock's own trailing residual volatility. Attribution is a statistical read, not a causal proof — a market-shaped move can still have a company-specific cause, and news timestamps are the vendor's. Nothing you look up is stored.
