Vapi Inc. is a San Francisco-based developer platform for AI voice agents that place and answer real phone calls. It bundles telephony, speech-to-text, LLM orchestration, text-to-speech, turn-taking and call-state management behind a single API and SDK, so engineering teams do not have to assemble that stack themselves; it competes both with do-it-yourself Twilio-plus-model glue code and with human call centers and IVR phone trees for inbound support, lead qualification, appointment scheduling and outbound sales. The company deliberately sells the infrastructure and orchestration layer rather than pre-packaged applications, targeting enterprises that want granular control over reliability, compliance and model behavior. The legal entity was incorporated in Delaware in 2020 and went through Y Combinator W21 as Superpowered, an AI meeting notetaker, before pivoting to voice infrastructure in late 2023 and launching Vapi publicly in 2024. Co-founded by University of Waterloo classmates Jordan Dearsley (CEO) and Nikhil Gupta (CTO), it raised a $20M Series A led by Bessemer Venture Partners in December 2024 and a $50M Series B led by Peak XV Partners in May 2026, with M12 (Microsoft's venture fund), Kleiner Perkins and Bessemer participating, bringing total funding to $72M at a press-reported valuation of roughly $500M. By the Series B the platform had handled more than 1 billion cumulative calls at 1-5 million calls per day, with over 1 million developers, roughly 100 employees, enterprise revenue up tenfold since early 2025, and an ARR run rate described by an investor source only as a "healthy" eight figures. Its flagship customer is Amazon Ring, which evaluated more than 40 voice vendors in late 2025, went from evaluation to production in two weeks, now routes 100% of its inbound call volume through Vapi, and reported improved customer satisfaction scores; other named customers include Intuit, New York Life, ServiceTitan, Kavak, Instawork, UnityAI and Cherry. The platform is SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI compliant.
