Kindred is a San Francisco-based members-only home swapping platform positioning itself as a third accommodation option alongside hotels and short-term rentals. Members open their primary residence to other verified members and earn nights or credits they can spend elsewhere on the network — a "give-to-get" model in which no money changes hands between host and guest and nights can only be earned, never bought or sold. Kindred monetises through service and cleaning fees rather than a cut of rent. Because over 90% of inventory is somebody's actual home rather than a commercial listing, the model does not pull housing stock off local markets, which is the regulatory pressure point for short-term rentals. Founded in 2021 by Opendoor alums Justine Palefsky (CEO) and Tasneem Amina, it has grown to ~300,000 members across 150+ cities and is expanding from one global community into interconnected sub-communities for friend-of-friend and shared-affinity swapping. In February 2026 it announced $125M in combined funding — a previously unannounced $40M Series B co-led by NEA and Figma CEO Dylan Field, plus an $85M Series C led by Index Ventures — at a ~$602.9M valuation (Forge).
