Discovery Loop

Discovery Loop is a Palo Alto AI research lab, structured as a Delaware public benefit corporation, founded in August 2026 by Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le and Oriol Vinyals — who left Google together, Dean after 27 years as its chief scientist. Its stated mission is to "automate machine learning, science, and engineering to accelerate discoveries and progress": systems that use frontier models and large-scale compute to rapidly propose, run and learn from thousands of experiments in parallel, closing the experimental loop rather than assisting a human through it. The launch round was co-led by Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures with Lightspeed, Kleiner Perkins and Doerr Capital participating; Alphabet is a founding investor and cloud partner supplying compute for at least the first year. Neither the round size nor a valuation was disclosed. Business Insider subsequently reported the company in talks for about $1B at roughly a $10B valuation and then, on 2026-09-11, seeking around $50B — both unclosed, so this entry carries no valuation mark.
