DECACORN
Industrial automation holding company founded by Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, describing itself as "physical automation to transform industry and move the world." Atoms is City Storage Systems renamed — Kalanick unveiled the new identity in March 2026 after roughly eight years operating in stealth, folding his existing businesses into a single structure spanning food, mining and transport. Its operating units include CloudKitchens (ghost kitchens), Otter (restaurant operating system), Lab37, Picnic and ProFood on the food side, and Pronto AI — the autonomous-haulage startup founded by ex-Uber and ex-Waymo engineer Anthony Levandowski, which Atoms acquired — on the mining side; an unannounced transport division is also flagged. Kalanick frames the company as the third act of a "bits-to-atoms" arc that began at Uber and continued at CloudKitchens, building "atoms-based computers" where manufacturing is CPU, real estate is storage and transportation is the network. In July 2026 Atoms announced a $1.7B equity investment led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Ben Horowitz joining the board; the round's post-money valuation was not disclosed. CloudKitchens had been reported at a $15B valuation by 2022, backed in part by Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund.
