Type One Energy

Stellarator fusion power plants, built as an integrator with a bespoke supplier network; first 400 MW plant targeted for 2034
Type One Energy, founded in 2019 and based in Knoxville, Tennessee, is developing stellarator fusion power plants. Rather than manufacture in-house, it acts as an integrator: it designs the plant and many components and has a bespoke supplier network build them, which CEO Christofer Mowry, who previously ran a large nuclear manufacturing company, says cuts the capital needed to commercialize fusion by an order of magnitude. Its first two fusion devices will be built at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Bull Run site, AECOM is engineering Infinity Two, its first 400 MW commercial plant targeted for 2034, and it licenses Commonwealth Fusion Systems' high-temperature superconducting magnets. On October 6, 2026 it announced a $200M Series B co-led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital, with Lowercarbon Capital, Siemens Energy Ventures and SiteGround Capital, after an $82.5M extended earlier round in 2024; the CEO says the round covers about half the cost of the first plant.
