Bellatrix Aerospace is a Bengaluru-based company that builds satellite propulsion systems. It sells both chemical (green monopropellant) and electric thrusters, including Hall-effect and microwave plasma thrusters. It won its first ISRO order in 2015, and its Rudra and Arka systems flew on PSLV C-58 in January 2024. Most customers are in Europe, Japan and South Korea. It also has a US subsidiary, which has not yet won a US order. The company says it can deliver a system in about four months from order, against an industry norm of 18 to 24 months, at roughly half the cost. It can build about 400 propulsion systems a year and is expanding to about 1,000 at a site in Peenya. Its next move is into satellites for very low Earth orbit (VLEO, about 200 km up), using air-breathing propulsion. The first VLEO satellite launched in March 2026 but had a software fault. The propulsion worked as intended. Three more are planned between December 2026 and March 2027 for an undisclosed customer. The company expects revenue above Rs 150 crore this year and is targeting more than Rs 300 crore next fiscal year, with positive cash flow. These are company projections, not reported results.
